Based on previously reported literature, we hypothesized that acute treatment with Bupropion administered at a dose of 0.1–0.3 mg/day would produce a moderate degree of hypomanic effect accompanied by a small degree of depressive symptomatology. The results showed that Bupropion at doses of 0.1–0.3 mg/day produced a significant increase of mood during the 1-h drug administration period, with a subsequent effect of hypomania. Our findings indicate that Bupropion exerts antidepressant-like action through hypomanic at a dose of 0.1–0.3 mg/day in individuals with bipolar patients. It has been shown that a large proportion of people with manic/hypomanic switches in bipolar disorder have a history of substance abuse, and that abuse is associated with an increased incidence of psychosis and suicide attempt (Dahl Wiersema, 2004; van der Kooy and D'Costa, 2011). To date, it remains unclear whether these two conditions are linked to Bupropion and its mechanism. Although our results in bipolar patients are consistent with the concept that Bupropion may act as an atypical antidepressant, it is important to note that even though this study showed clear evidence of hypomanic action in bipolar patients, it did not investigate the effects of doses Bupropion used in our experimental studies. Moreover, it will be important to replicate our findings using clinical settings. Also the results of this pilot study are in line with previously reported information that Bupropion does not induce adverse psychotropic or metabolic effects (Nijhuis et al., 1997; van der Kooy and D'Costa, 2011). In addition, given the fact that majority of patients with bipolar disorder have a negative and depressive outlook in their assessment of clinical status, the study results seem to support the concept of Bupropion as an antidepressant without significant side effects. However, more controlled clinical trials are required to clarify the mechanism underlying Bupropion's action in patients with manic symptoms.

One way nicotine affects the brain's nerve cells is by activating nicotinic acid receptors in the terminals of neurons. this manner, it may influence dopamine synthesis, which in turn may help to regulate a wide range of different biological processes. (7) Nicotine acts not only on nicotinic acid receptors to regulate its action but additionally through many of these receptors to control the functioning of a number neurotransmitters, such as acetylcholine, gamma-amino butyric acid, serotonin, and acetylcholine itself. (8) These effects, in turn, have the potential to very wide ranging effects on the brain. Opioid drugs have a very specific effect on the brain because most of them have mechanisms that act to inhibit the functioning of certain brain cells, either directly (by inhibiting the receptors that contain them) or indirectly (by influencing the actions of enzymes that produce those receptors). (10) These drugs influence the transmission of neural signals which can cause changes in the activity of neurons and subsequent activation pathways which control the functioning of body's organs. (11) 4. Alcoholics Anonymous Some patients with alcohol-related problems report feeling that they have been "canceled out of the universe," as these patients seem to be experiencing an altered mental state that is often indistinguishable from "dementia."
